Unemployment Rates During the New Deal
The U.S. entry into World War II required a monumental effort that not only fueled the end of the Great Depression but also showcased the nation's capacity for rapid industrial and military expansion.

The government quickly implemented policies and programs, such as the War Production Board, that spurred economic growth and employment and coordinated industrial production by overseeing the manufacturing of weapons, vehicles, and other essential supplies.

The military, in need of a significant expansion, drafted millions of Americans through the Selective Service Act, creating a formidable fighting force.
“Black Rosies,” National Association of Black Military Women
Women became integral to the war effort, joining the workforce in unprecedented numbers to fill essential roles in industries left vacant by men serving overseas.
As the U.S. quickly mobilized for war, FDR coined the term, the “arsenal of democracy,” to highlight the collective efforts of Americans to help the Allies win the war.
