The Aleut people, indigenous to present-day Alaska, were skilled hunters and gatherers and relied heavily on the vast resources of the ocean. The Aleuts made efficient use of the resources available to them by utilizing all parts of the animals they hunted.

Many distinct indigenous groups in California practiced intentional land management techniques including controlled burning and cultivating native plants such as acorns, wild grains, and other edible plants. They employed techniques like selective planting, weeding, and irrigation to enhance crop yields.
Diverse groups in the region experienced a varied climate as they adapted to and transformed their environment.
